Regular maintenance keeps your digital totem running reliably and looking its best. This page covers the locking systems that protect your device, the correct procedures for cleaning every part of the unit, and the steps you should take to prevent image burn-in on the display.

Locking Systems

Your totem is protected by two complementary locking mechanisms — a physical lock that secures the access panel and a software lock that controls what users can do on-screen.

Physical Lock

The access panel is secured with a key lock that prevents unauthorised access to the internal components.
  • Use the supplied key to open and close the access panel.
  • Keep the keys in a secure location known only to authorised personnel.
  • Never leave the totem open and unattended — always re-lock the panel before stepping away.

Software Lock (via SITEKIOSK ONLINE)

You can restrict user interactions and system access remotely through the SITEKIOSK ONLINE administration panel.
  1. Log in to the SITEKIOSK ONLINE administration panel using your credentials.
  2. Navigate to the restrictions section and configure the desired access rules.
  3. Save and apply the settings — changes take effect on the totem immediately.

Cleaning the Totem

Before cleaning any part of the totem, always disconnect the power supply completely. Never attempt to clean the device while it is powered on or plugged in.

Screen and Frame Cleaning

1

Preparation

Turn off the totem and disconnect it from the power outlet. Wait for the screen and housing to cool down completely before touching any surface.
2

Screen Cleaning

Use a soft microfiber cloth slightly dampened with plain water. Wipe the screen gently in smooth, circular motions. Never spray liquid directly onto the screen — always apply moisture to the cloth first.
3

Frame

Wipe the frame with a clean, damp cloth. For persistent stains, apply a small amount of diluted neutral (pH-balanced) detergent to the cloth — do not apply detergent directly to the frame.
4

Drying

After cleaning, wipe all surfaces with a dry cloth to remove any remaining moisture. Allow the totem to dry completely before reconnecting the power supply and restarting.

Products and Materials to Avoid

Never use any of the following on your totem:
  • Abrasive cleaning products or scouring powders
  • Aerosols, solvents, or alcohol-based sprays
  • Rough or coarse materials (paper towels, abrasive pads) that can scratch the screen
  • Excessive water or liquids that can seep into the device and cause electrical damage

Housing and Support

  • Clean the outer housing and support column with a damp cloth.
  • Periodically inspect and tighten the mounting screws to ensure the unit remains stable and secure.
  • Remove accumulated dust from all ventilation areas to maintain adequate airflow and prevent overheating.

Power Cable

  • Visually inspect the power cable regularly for any signs of damage, fraying, or discolouration.
  • Do not bend the cable sharply or pull it by the cord — always grip the plug when disconnecting.
  • Replace the cable immediately if you notice any damage; do not continue operating the totem with a compromised cable.

Preventing “Image Burn” or “Burn-in” Effect

Image burn-in occurs when a static image is displayed for an extended period, leaving a permanent ghost impression on the screen. Follow the guidance below to protect your display.
To prevent burn-in and extend the life of your display:
  • Activate a screen saver to engage automatically after periods of inactivity.
  • Vary the displayed content regularly so no single image remains on-screen for too long.
  • Avoid displaying static images — such as logos, menus, or maps — for prolonged periods without interruption.
  • Configure screen-saving settings directly from the SITEKIOSK ONLINE panel to automate display cycling and inactivity timeouts.
