Before using a Totem Digital smart bench, read and understand the precautions below. They help you use the product safely, protect the people who use the bench and extend its service life.
  • High voltage may be present inside the product. Do not open the cover, to avoid electric shock.
  • Product maintenance must be carried out by authorized technical personnel.
  • Incorrect operation can lead to electric shock or fire.
  • To use the product safely and maintain its service life, read the following safety precautions carefully before use.

General precautions

  • Keep this instruction manual safe for future needs.
  • Pay particular attention to the safety instructions and warnings, and strictly follow the warning instructions (notes) in the manual.
  • Follow all operating instructions in a timely manner.
  • Do not use accessories not recommended by the manufacturer. Improper use can cause an unexpected product failure.
  • Before using the product, check that its power requirements suit local power conditions. If you cannot tell what type of power you use, contact the manufacturer or your local power company.
  • Do not use any object that presses on or twists the power cable. A damaged power cable can cause electric shock or fire.
  • Do not try to repair the product yourself. Once it is damaged, high voltage or other devices inside the product can cause a variety of hazards.
  • Make sure you use qualified personnel for product maintenance.
  • Do not touch components that are not mentioned in the user manual.
  • Improper adjustment of components not mentioned in the user manual will make maintenance harder for professional and technical staff.
  • When components need replacing, make sure they are specified by the manufacturer or have the same characteristics as the original parts. Improper components can cause fire, electric shock, damage to the device and/or other hazards.
  • Disconnect the power before cleaning the product. Use a damp cloth to clean it. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.
  • Disconnect the power when the product will not be used for a long time.
  • Make sure there is ventilation and that the device’s air vent is not blocked or covered.

Photovoltaic panel and placement

  • The photovoltaic panel is made of sensitive materials. Do not use anything to strike the panel surface. If the unit has been dropped or hit, the panel may be broken. In that case, stop using the product immediately.
  • Do not place the product in areas without direct sunlight (shaded areas). This will limit the product’s operation.
  • Because the product is independent of the domestic power grid (AC220V), it must be placed where the sun reaches it for as much of the day as possible.

Hot seat surface on black benches

Smart benches are deliberately placed in sunny locations so the photovoltaic panel can charge the batteries. A metal housing painted black absorbs a lot of heat from the sun, so on days with strong sunshine and high temperatures the seat surface can become very hot.
Risk of burns from contact with the seat surface
  • On sunny, hot days, the seat surface of black benches can reach temperatures that cause discomfort or burns on contact with skin.
  • The risk is higher for children, elderly people, people with reduced sensitivity to heat, and pets.
  • Before sitting down, briefly check the surface temperature with the back of your hand.
  • Do not let children or pets sit directly on the heated surface.
  • Do not place heat-sensitive items on the hot surface (for example electronic devices, food or plastic containers).
Recommendations for the bench owner or operator:
  • Display a warning about the hot surface next to the bench, visible to users.
  • For locations with very strong sun exposure, consider ordering a light-colored housing.
  • Inform maintenance staff that metal surfaces may be hot during work carried out on sunny days.

Improper use

The manufacturer or retailer accepts no liability for injuries, losses or damage resulting from incorrect or improper use of the product. Possible examples of improper or incorrect use are:
  • Using the product for purposes other than those for which it is intended;
  • Failing to follow the safety instructions and warnings, as well as the mounting, operating, servicing and cleaning instructions in this manual;
  • Failing to follow any specific regulations for using the product and/or generally applicable accident prevention regulations in occupational health or safety engineering.
